Grundfos Direct Sensors™ and Mouldflo manifolds improve the efficiency of plastic injection molding machines

With Mouldflo installed on the injection moulding machine, operators and engineers can monitor the flow, temperature and pressure within the cooling circuits and the system can trigger an alarm if any of these parameters deviate outside of the limits.

The Grundfos Direct Sensors™ inside the Mouldflo system can measure flow, temperature (up to 120°C) and pressure, and digitally transfer this data, which helps engineers and operators identify and predict an acceptable maintenance schedule.

Medical cooling by Beehe with Grundfos Direct Sensors™

To measure the flow rate of different cooling loops in Magnetic Resonance Cooling System Beehe needed a flow sensor with high accuracy, low cost, small size, analogue output and without moving parts inside. Grundfos VFS series flow sensors combines all the requirements described above, so Grundfos was chosen at the beginning of selection.

VFS & RPS sensors in the new Engel e-Flomo

For all three necessary measurements in the system, Engel uses Grundfos Direct Sensors™. The main advantage of the sensors is that they are 2in1 sensors. This means that the VFS is a vortex flow and temperature sensor, able to measure up to 120 °C; while the RPS is a relative pressure and temperature sensor, with the same temperature measurement range.

By feeding back the flow and pressure as well as temperatures and the delta T between the VFS and RPS, into the system, ENGEL is able to control and monitor the entire manifold cooling process.

Reisner Chillers & Grundfos Direct Sensors™

Together with Klaus Reisner and his team our sales engineers Sebastian Strang and Walter Steckenreiter have been involved in the selection of the suitable sensors. This is how the ideal Grundfos pump package for their chiller systems was selected and integrated into the system solution.

Grundfos pumps and Grundfos Vortex flow transmitters VFI (Vortex Flow sensor Industry) are integrated now in more and more of their chiller systems.

The decision to use the Grundfos Vortex flow transmitter VFI for flow measurement is based on the VFI construction, pricing, performance, and specification.

Euraqua UK uses a variety of Grundfos Direct Sensors in its systems, for filtering, monitoring and control.

Euraqua produces a number of filter and reverse osmosis systems in Water Treatment with customers throughout Europe and the world. 

FlowCon Sensor - market standard for solar heatmetering

By measuring and monitoring all relevant parameters of a Solar System (e.g. flow, pressure, supply and return temperature) the heat-output can easily be calculated.

All these measurements can be done by 2 Grundfos Direct Sensors ™ . RESOL is convinced that these cost-effective sensors can make an important contribution.

Sensor in state of the art compact boiler module

The mix of the Grundfos Pump Circuit and Grundfos´ Vortex Flow Sensor has resulted in the Multipurpose IWC, which saves cost through elimination of solitary temperature sensors and enables more compact boiler systems. The integration of a temperature sensor enables better control of the burner and lowers the power consumption.

By using the VFS it is possible to achieve faster and more accurate response to hot water consumption and since the VFS is a steadystate flowsensor it is possible to operate on the hot water side to increase hot water efficiency without any clogging or drift over time.

The sensors are integrated in the return to measure the real system temperature in each return. This installation makes it also useful to measure the flow, because a break of the piping can be detected by the flow sensor.

The use of the vortex flow sensors VFS 1-12 QT and VFS 2-40 QT enables TrigasFl to offer a more progressive solution to their customers. A flexible, extendable and robust manifold system is the result of using standard parts.

SINGLE Temperature Control Systems

The advantages of the Grundfos Direct Sensors™ could be used in several ways at Single. The combination of flow and temperature in one unit enabled Single to integrate the sensor also in crowded systems. The sensor principle without moving parts assured reliability and robustness in harsh environments and the competitive price makes it possible to integrate sensors also in low cost temperature control systems.

Since March 2006, Single has been a customer for not only pumps but also for the Grundfos Direct Sensors™. The sensors have been integrated in different other applications at Single during the last couple of years.

Customer had experienced failures (due to debris becoming lodged in the vane bearing) with the paddle wheel flow meters previously being used.
They were also looking to reduce the component cost.

Grundfos Direct Sensor™ were contacted to provide a solution if possible with the non- moving parts Vortex Flow Sensor (VFS).

Grundfos Direct Sensors™ for the integrated cooling modules:
For two years, IPG Laser is also using Direct Sensors™ of Grundfos to measure pressure and temperature in their system. Background: The integrated laser cooling module is placed inside the cabin. The laser protection class of the cabin doesn’t allow connecting external sensors.

Sensor improves the reliability of home booster

One such requirement in the UK market is low water pressure in homes, businesses and buildings. Many modern appliances such as Combi-boilers require a minimum pressure to operate. The Home booster was designed to overcome this in areas where the mains pressure is subject to fluctuations due to location, age of water infrastructure and potential for mains leakage.

SINGLE Water Distribution System

The requirement for Grundfos Direct Sensors™ was to supply a flow sensor, which could be integrated in a brass manifold in a compact way.

The VFS 1-12 QT and VFS 2-40 QT was the ideal solution, because of the possibility to integrate the cylindrical flow pipe into the brass manifold and then mount the sensor with an easy clip connection.

Another benefit was that both composite flow pipes (measuring ranges 1-12 l/min and 2-40 l/min) fit into the same brass manifold without any mechanical changes.

Ecotherm DPI solution for heating

The DPI is used in the high capacity water heater (heat exchanger) system to measure the differential pressure in the system to monitor for clogging in the system.

It is necessary to control the clogging because of the aim of ECOTHERM to offer the highest efficiency in their systems.
The DPI was integrated in several applications with high reliability and extreme low failure rates. The implementation in the heat exchanger was therefore easy and is running without any complaints.

VFS sensors keep APC by Schneider Electric systems cool

As a part of the control system, we monitor several sensors and adjust the cooling units performance to ensure stable inlet temperatures to the IT equipment. A performance point that we relay to the end user is the actual cooling capacity of the unit.

This provides visibility to the amount of cooling that is being provided by individual units or groups.

VFS in PAW systems

Later on a further Grundfos development based on the VFS 2-40 was launched. Instead of a using a composite pipe the sensor could be integrated into a metal body, which was again a breakthrough for PAW as they could – following their core-competence - design there own armature to fully integrate Grundfos sensor solutions in the most cost-efficient way.

At that time also the response times on the flow and temperature signals have been improved so that the new product was the “best in class” sensor for freshwater modules.

Rofin Sinar - Fiber Lasers - flow monitoring of cooling system

The compact design of the Vortex Flow Sensor Type VFS and the combination of measuring flow and temperature in only one sensor could bring the amount of needed sensors down.

Within the ROFIN application “Fiber Lasers” theGrundfos flow sensor versions VFS 1-20 and VFS 2-40 have been chosen.

Since KSN Industry A/S is a make to order company, then the number of sensors which they purchase varies a lot based on the type and size of the system build. But the VFS Sensor has become an integrated part of many of their systems today where it helps KSN Industry A/S save water, energy and delivers clean parts in a controllable manner to it’s customers.

2 x VFS 5-100 dual output sensors have been used to provide the 4 signals for the control software.

Installation in the pipework in space, that is very limited for 2 sensors, was made possible for TES by our VFS sensors each having 2 measurements in the water stream.

dp for Flow controlled Pumps

As the idea behind an E-pump is to adjust the speed of the pump to the current need, the pump needs to get a feedback from a sensor concerning the condition of the system. E.g. if we set the pump at a predetermined pressure, the sensor will feed this true status of the system back into the pump and thereby vary the speed, to keep the constant pressure.

The most used type for circulating pumps is differential pressure sensors, due to their reliability and cost-performance. Incorporation of differential pressure sensors in the pump systems reduces the energy consumption considerably and increases pump performance.
